A note about Hotel Bookings
The hotels featured in this brochure have been inspected and approved by us. However, we are happy to book a hotel of your choice on the understanding that the hotel has not been checked by a member of our staff and we therefore cannot verify the standard of accommodation or the quality of service. The questionnaires we receive back from our customers indicate a high level of satisfaction with hotel standards in Austria generally, but there are a few areas which we feel we should comment on in particular. Firstly, single supplements charged by the majority of hotels are an entitlement to privacy and do not indicate a higher level of facilities. Secondly, many hotels in Vienna are built around a central well or courtyard which affords peace and quiet but limited views! As most of the hotels we use are in the heart of Vienna, the rooms at the front of the hotel tend to be noisier than those at the back, but may overlook a street or square rather than an enclosed courtyard. It is not usually possible to have a room at the front of the hotel which is also quiet. We would also like to point out that there is not the same distinction in Austria between double and twin rooms as there is in the UK. Double beds are usually two single mattresses in one bed frame and with two separate duvets. This type of bed is also often used as a twin room – please advise if you prefer two separate beds. See note on page 34 concerning special requests. Some of our smaller partner hotels in Vienna may share a communal entrance and lift with other tenants in the same building - this is often the case where private apartments have been converted into a hotel or in a building where the hotel only occupies one or two floors. Most guests accept this as a typically Viennese feature, but if you are unhappy with this concept please let us know and we will advise which hotels may suit you better. Finally, tea and coffee making facilities are not a part of Austrian culture and are rarely found in Austrian hotel rooms (the Carlton Opera in Vienna is a notable exception) – we suggest you make the most of your stay and sample the excellent coffee to be found in any café or bar!
