Salzburg City Breaks
The grandeur and scale of Vienna contrast dramatically with the intimate charm and romance of Salzburg with its narrow cobbled streets, fairy tale castle and majestic churches, palaces and squares. The attractive old town is best explored on foot and the splendid architecture of the city's most famous landmarks contrasts with the exclusive boutiques and cosy coffee shops nestled amongst the winding streets and pretty courtyards. Music dominates the cultural scene in Salzburg and a concert at the castle or the Mirabell Palace is an enjoyable way to experience the city's rich musical heritage. Make time to visit the nearby lakes and mountains of the Salzkammergut on one of the regular excursions outside the city, or take a boat ride to the magnificent gardens and water features at Hellbrunn Castle. There are few hotels directly in the largely pedestrianised old town, but each of our recommended hotels in Salzburg enjoys a convenient location within walking distance of all the main attractions. During the Salzburg Festival demand for accommodation is always strong so early booking is essential.
